The following is a message from Education Minister Madeleine Dubé in recognition of Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week, Feb. 12-18, 2006:
“Teachers and school, district and department staff have the important responsibility of preparing our youth to meet the challenges of tomorrow. Every day these men and women work together to offer New Brunswick students a top-quality education.
“On the occasion of Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week I would like to pay tribute to all of the staff in our schools and districts. They are involved in a mission like no other. Their work, professionalism, and dedication deserve to be recognized. I therefore encourage parents, students and members of the public to show their appreciation to the individuals who work in our schools.
“The Government of New Brunswick is firmly committed to supporting school staff in effectively fulfilling their mission. Over the past six years the government has increased funding per student by 40 per cent, and despite lower enrolment numbers is committed to adding 625 new teaching positions to the school system, 410 of which have already been filled.
“I also want to commend the Federation of Home and School Associations and the Association des parents francophones du Nouveau-Brunswick for organizing Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week each year.
“New Brunswick’s future is being shaped in our schools. During Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week this year, let’s all make a point of thanking each and every individual who has taken on this important task.”
