$696,000 Investment for Capital Projects in School District 9

Major and capital-improvement projects are being undertaken in School District 9, thanks to a provincial investment of $696,000.

“Through the Quality Learning Agenda, students, teachers and other education professionals are learning and working in a healthy, safe and positive environment,” Education Minister Claude Williams said. “This investment in School District 9 demonstrates the commitments government has made to ensure that the province’s schools are healthy and safe. It also helps us work toward our goal of becoming the smart province under the Five in Five Initiative.”

The projects being undertaken in School District 9 during 2006-07 include:

renovations to the roof of École La Passerelle (Pont-Landry);
renovations to the roof and floors of Polyvalente Louis-Mailloux (Caraquet);
upgrade to the heating system and fire-prevention work at École La Villa-des-Amis (Tracadie-Sheila);
renovations to the roof and upgrade to the heating system at Polyvalente W.-Arthur-Losier (Tracadie-Sheila);
replacement of exterior doors at École La Ruche (Tracadie-Sheila);
upgrade to the ventilation system at École Sœur-Saint-Alexandre (Lamèque);
upgrade to the heating system at Polyvalente Marie-Esther (Shippagan);
renovations to the roof at École l’Amitié (Rivière-du-Portage); and
replacement of exterior doors at École La Source (Tracadie-Sheila).
The projects were selected from the yearly priority lists established by the district.

“I wish to thank members of the District Education Councils for their work in helping identify high-priority projects, especially those where health and safety issues must be addressed,” Williams said. “Their advice and input are greatly appreciated.”

The $696,000 investment in School District 9 is part of the Department of Education’s $58-million capital budget for the 2006-07 fiscal year.

The Government of New Brunswick has invested $327 million over the past seven years in new schools and capital improvements to existing schools across the province.
